This machine is well built and the battery operated motor spins the inner drum well. An annoying number of unshelled peas slipped through the plastic mesh; I'm hoping that was because they had been picked several days earlier and were a bit dry. I have used this style of sheller before where the mesh was hardware cloth and did not have that problem. I seriously though about returning the machine over the problem but decided to give it a second chance.
Hi Bradford, thank you for your detailed feedback! We're glad you find the machine well built. Your experience with the peas slipping through is helpful—sometimes dryness can affect shelling. We appreciate you giving it another try and hope it works better with fresher peas. If you look in the video on the product - that is on our porch. While the cleaning is not perfect, we feel it is pretty good. Along with the handy size of the unit, it is a great machine to have in the neighborhood. Feel free to reach out if you need any assistance!
The tub cover does everything it claims to do. I think that for most people the wax paper covering the ice cream under the lid, with a cork in the lid hole and cover with salt and ice is sufficient.
The tub cover is nice for transporting the entire tub and ice cream to another location.
I think the tub itself could have a drain plug/petcock near the bottom of the tub.
This would allow the user to drain the melting water off the bottom of the ice cream can. In doing so the user could keep the lower portion of the ice. Ream frozen harder rather than have it turn very soft and runny due to the salt water mixture not being as cold as the ice portion.
Hi Bryan, thank you for your detailed feedback! We're glad the tub cover meets your needs and appreciate your suggestion about a drain plug. It's great to hear how you use it for transportation and ice cream storage. We'll consider this idea for future improvements.
When we use the freezer, we will tilt the freezer sideways to slowly drain off some water so it will not spill. Then you can add more ice and salt. It is good to have some brine (water & salt) in the tub since that helps transfer the heat (coldness) to the ice cream can. Just make sure the drain hole is never plugged, or you will have disgusting salty ice cream.
